Question: What is Students for Academic Choice?
Answer: A group of students and graduates of private postsecondary career oriented institutions, who have banded together to have a voice in Washington, DC.
Question: What is the purpose of this organization?
Answer: We want to ensure among other things that:
-
All students have access to a quality education best suited to their own life and financial situations and the complexities of the 21st century;
-
We recognize the need of non-traditional students to have access to postsecondary education in order to gain the skills demanded by a changing workforce;
-
The value of our education and the institutions we have chosen to attend is communicated clearly and consistently to employers, to those who set higher education policy, and to other stakeholders committed to the United States’ goal of regaining its preeminent role in higher education.
Question: Why is this group necessary?
Answer: Non-traditional and career college students are very different from traditional college students and often seek postsecondary education for different reasons. Yet we have no voice in education policy.
Question: Why is gainful employment so important to you?
Answer: Academic freedom is basic to our society. Students should be able to choose for themselves the programs that make most sense. We do not think the government should be involved in this process.
